I am the new Borough Inspector for the Surrey Heath area, having taken over from Mark Adams, and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all and tell you a little about me.
I started my service as a PC in Ash as an Area Patrol Officer. After two years learning about the people and the issues, I moved to Guildford as a Response Officer responding to and dealing with emergency calls.
I subsequently moved to Guildford Custody as a Custody Sergeant before moving to the Borough Policing Team at Woking, responsible for crime investigation and community policing for the Woking area. This role evolved into a pro-active one targeting key offenders through the execution of warrants and putting them before the courts.
In 2004 I became an Inspector on the Response Team based here at Camberley and, with the exception of a year as a Staff Officer to the Assistant Chief Constable, I have worked in Surrey Heath ever since.
I believe in Neighbourhood Policing and the role we and our partner agencies have in agreeing and delivering local policing with our neighbourhoods. I am keen to utilise the powers provided to Police Officers and the skills and experiences brought in by our Police Community Support Officers to tackle issues of anti-social behaviour and to increase confidence
in the community.
I was pleasantly surprised when I attended the Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators meeting at Lakeside in August, and saw for myself how supportive and active Neighbourhood Watch in the Borough is. I thank you all for your efforts and hope I can count on your continued support in the future.
I plan to build on the good work already done in Surrey Heath, working closely with all our partners to help keep our community safe.
James Norbury
Borough Inspector, Surrey Heath
